50 Years of Automotive and Transport Design

2024 sees the 50th anniversary of the renowned Automotive & Transport Design course at Coventry University. Nearly 3000 students have studied on the undergraduate programme at Coventry University since its inception in 1974 and a further 150 have graduated from the MA programme, making it one of the foremost transport courses worldwide.

To celebrate this event, there is a free exhibition entitled “Coventry Connections” in the Gallery at the School of Art & Design from 1-7 June in the new Delia Derbyshire Building. Opening times 10.00-16.00.

The locations of automotive design centres has always given the course a global reach, with many Coventry alumni now heading up these studios across the world. The memories of the course – the staff and the buildings, the pubs and bars – are a powerful bond that connects those alumni together and provides a natural conversation when new recruits join a design team, whether it be in San Francisco, Shanghai or Stuttgart.

The exhibition has been curated by GOMW member Nick Hull, who has also written a new book on the legacy of the course, which is launched to coincide with the exhibition in June.
