SLIDER: Ford Capri Mk 1 1600

This Capri Mk 1 was seen very recently, and is in lovely condition.  Somebody has clearly lavished some tender loving care upon it.

The Ford Capri was designed by American Philip T. Clark, one of the main designers of the Ford Mustang. Amazingly, this was generally unknown until as late as 2010. Intended as the European equivalent of the Mustang, it was remarkably successful, selling nearly 1.9 million cars over its production life from 1969 to 1986.

The running gear was based on the 1966 Mk 2 Cortina, and from the start the Capri was supplied with a wide range of engines.  Initially, small-displacement UK cars were powered by the Ford Kent straight-four in 1.6-litre form (a 1.3-litre version was also available) – but equivalent cars for continental markets used the Taunus V4 engine.

This 1973 example is a facelift version, available from 1972, with larger tail-lights and headlamps, and a Pinto 1.6-litre engine.

The last Mk 1 Capri was produced eight months after the launch of the Capri II on 31st October 1974.
