The car (not a charabanc) identified: 1916 Overland

Ariejan Bos, based in the Netherlands and a frequent contributor to our good friends at www.prewar.com, has speedily identified this car.  In Ariejan’s words:

“The mystery car in Edinburgh is an ‘ordinary’ 1916 Overland, probably a model 75. It is not a charabanc though, but a normal 5 person touring car. There is an optical effect in the photo, which makes it seem that extra seats are present beside the rear doors, but what you really see is the other side of the body.”

We have told our contributor, who was very grateful for Ariejan’s help.

Our original post was:

“A viewer of our website has sent us this wonderfully evocative photograph of a small charabanc outside the home of one of his antecedents in the 1920s, with a chauffeur in attendance.  He is wondering if any of us might be able to identify the make of vehicle.  The photo was taken in Edinburgh outside 55-57 Albany Street, Leith – which is now Portland Street.

If you can help, we would be really grateful.  Please either give us your information in the Comments field below this post, or email the webmaster: peter.moss12@btinternet.com

We shall pass on all information to the owner of the photograph – and we’ll make sure we put any identification on the website (anonymous or not).

Thanks in advance.”
