SAHB witness legendary Ecurie Ecosse team at the 2014 Mille Miglia.

The legendary Ecurie Ecosse transporter and two Jaguars joined with Jaguar Heritage Racing for the 2014 Mille Miglia and pretty much stole the show!

Attendees at this year’s Mille Miglia were highly impressed to see the Scotish racing team’s legendary Commer transporter pulling into the Fiera di Brescia for pre-Mille miglia Scrutineering and signing on laden with a C and D Type Jaguar. The trio were bought by an American collector for some £7,300,000 in total at a Bonhams auction in London on 1st December 2013. The proud new owner has decided to leave the trio in the capable hands of West Sussex’s CKL Developments. Their managing director, Ben Schuckburgh told Classic Car Weekly “This owner is both enlightened and very generous. He appreciates that the important thing is that these cars be seen in the appropriate context and so we ran the C-Type at Monaco and then moved the three of them onto the Mille Miglia”.

CKL had looked after some of the Dick Skipworth Ecurie Ecosse collection prior to their record making sale, as their founder Chris Keith-Lucas had been the driving force within Lynx who did the original restoration on the transporter and worked on many of the other epochal machines who raced in the distinctive Scottish navy blue livery with the saltire badge proudly adorning their flanks.

The C-Type attending the Mille Miglia (#XKC 006) had been raced extensively in period by the team, including at Le Mans, Goodwood, Dundrod etc. The D-Type (#XKD561) was raced in the day by Le Mans winners  Ron Flockhart and Ninian Sanderson amongst others, mainly in the UK, but also at Spa and Rouen .

The showing of all three of these hugely valuable and most historically significant cars around Europe this year and next, they will next  be seen at Le Mans Classic from 4-6th July, evidences the owners attitude to his custodianship of these glorious machines.  Ben Schuckburgh adds “To us, carrying on our  involvement with this gentleman and these three motor vehicles evidences his continuity of care and attitude –Ecurie Ecosse’s  dedication is being respected, and enhanced!”
